Additional information

This invited paper reports an outcome of the EPSRC project EP/D077540/1 and long-standing collaboration with CNRS Laboratories. The significance of the proposed method lies in its strong resilience to noise, essential in cell segmentation. The paper expands on work published at CAIP’2011. The work provided the case for the follow-on EPSRC grant EP/H024913/1, a special session on “Analysis of Microscopy and Reconstructive Images” at the ICIP’2011 and a new EPSRC proposal on Modelling effects of ionising radiation on cells (contact: Project PI, LJMU). The core software is publicly available and one of the most downloaded Matlab mathematical packages: http://www.mathworks.co.uk/matlabcentral/fileexchange/24998-2d3d-image-segmentation-toolbox
