This academic is employed as a consultant geriatrician by Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. They are also appointed to the University of Portsmouth as a Professor of Health Care for Older People (4 days per week). The arrangement is that Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust cross charge the University for their time with them and they continue to pay their full time salary.
The academic is seconded to the Department of Health (for 3 days per week) as Chairman of the NHS Information Standards Board. Their role includes the undertaking of research, which he predominantly conducts through his affiliation with the University and as part of this submitting unit (UoA 2: Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care). His specific research responsibilities include the provision of leadership, governance, and supervision (e.g. through Chief Investigator roles, and Chair of the University of Portsmouth Ageing Network), proposal and publication writing, income generation, knowledge dissemination, and scholarship. Given his substantive post as a consultant geriatrician, They feed into this unit’s themes of ‘health & social care of the older person’, as well as ‘health & social care environments’. He provides leadership and guidance to the researchers working within these themes, and is notably co-author with three other researchers submitting to this unit.
