Additional information

The paper demonstrates that a narrowband microstrip patch antenna can use an UWB antenna as its ground plane. This enables the two antennas to share the same volumetric space. This will be important in portable devices where space is at a premium. The concept is simple and effective. It has proved quite influential and is likely to be adopted in portable Cognitive Radio devices. A patent was filed to protect this idea.
