Additional information

To achieve wireless broadband provision in densely populated areas, the use of very small cells is a major enabler. As no real cell planning can be done, the interference caused by small cell access points reduces the overall capacity. The joint channel and transmission energy optimisation approach in this paper enhances the overall outage capacity significantly and optimises the energy use of large scale small cell deployments. These ideas are now being incorporated into work on 5G standards.
