This paper presents a novel closed-loop encoding system, based on the analysis-by-synthesis (AbS) principle applied on MPEG surround architecture, designed for high-quality multi-channel spatial audio coding. Testing and results show that significant improvements can be made with this approach over existing standards and the algorithm application will be submitted for standardisation in MPEG.
