Additional information

A precise control over the diameter of ZnO nanowires during chemical growth via a new laser seeding method allowing rapid production of controlled nanostructures is demonstrated. As the wires are not attached to a substrate, the process is readily scaled to deliver bulk-quantities of precise nanowires. This has led to a further refinement of the process to produce ultra-thin wires, to form the basis of a grant proposal to develop solar-cells and transistors. The work led to an invited talk (Henley) at EMRS-12 and invitation to organise the EMRS symposium in 2013.
