Additional information

The world record efficiency upconversion phosphors reported in this world-leading collaboration with Cambridge and industry led to their application in addressing the fundamental limitation of organic photovoltaic devices in not being able to harvest near infrared light. Using the approach we show the potential to match the upconversion efficiency previously only achieved in amorphous-Si devices. This work (also reported in Chemical Communications) places us at the forefront of this newly emerging field with these materials being commercialized by Saint-Gobain and Mitsubishi Chemicals for application in a range of energy efficient technologies.
