Additional information

We describe the synthesis and characterisation of two novel isomeric metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The aim was to prepare porous materials with magnetic properties, and to rationalize the magnetic / structural correlations, which was successful. One isomer shows spin-crossover electronic switching, which is an extremely rare property in MOFs, and has only previously been observed during solvent addition/removal. The second MOF shows long range magnetic order and is a relatively hard magnet, unusual in any molecular system. The work rationalizes the structural reasons for these properties, which promotes logical design of magnetic MOFs for future application.
