Additional information

A detailed experimental study of the use of pulsating jets for anti-icing heat transfer is presented, and an evaluation of how this could be fed into the design of such a system to enable effective heat transfer with a reduction in required energy discussed. The concept of a critical Strouhal number is introduced, proposed as an effective measure for practical design optimisation. The work represents a new collaboration between three European Research Institutions - Queens University Belfast, Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (reference Dr Emmanuel Benard), Toulouse and the Coventry University, UK (Dr Humberto Medina).
