Electrocaloric materials are currently intensely studied for solid-state cooling applications and have significant potential for space saving and higher energy efficiency. This output describes the first direct measurement and supporting rigorous microscopic theory of the electrocaloric effect in a very high quality ferroelectric single crystal. It is at the very forefront of research work in this area and is the result of collaboration between leading groups in the UK, Canada and Finland. The RAC group at LSBU are seeking ways to exploit the results.
