A New Approach to the Calculation of Flash Temperatures in Dry, Sliding Contacts
This paper introduces a completely new method for calculating flash temperatures in sliding contacts. The value of the method is that it is simple to apply and offers a more representative model of asperity-on-asperity contact than techniques previously described. Predictions are based upon a numerical analysis of the correct constitutive equations for time dependent heat flow.
DoE methods have been used to produce design charts which could be adopted by industry to make quick and accurate predictions of flash temperatures at individual contacts.
