Additional information

A novel history matching approach is proposed where both the model structure and the model parameters are inferred from the calibration data. This method efficiently handles the practical cases when the amount of knowledge about the oil reservoir is limited and assuming a certain model structure is not justified. The proposed method provides a robust calibration of subsurface flow models and minimizes the risk of making the wrong assumptions about the model structure and thus proper prediction bounds of the future production rates can be obtain by the calibrated model. This research was industrially funded (QCCSRC, http://www.imperial.ac.uk/qccsrc, £2.2M).
