Shopping in Ancient Rome. The Retail Trade in the Late Republic and the Principate
The writing of this book necessitated the consultation of a particularly broad range of evidence and required a detailed knowledge of literary, legal, epigraphic, and archaeological material pertaining to the retail trade in Rome. The collation of literary references was particularly time consuming, requiring the close reading of a large corpus of Latin literature, including comedies, satires, epigrams, and novels. Furthermore, as the book contributes to wider debates on the nature of the Roman economy, a firm grounding in economic theory and current debates and controversies within the discipline of ancient economic history was also needed.
