Additional information

This is the first paper published that compares noise generated by plastic gears made from a variety of engineering polymers. The study was supported by EPSRC (EP/P50541) in collaboration with the School of Metallurgy and Materials (University of Birmingham). The study revealed the importance of tribological interactions in the design of low noise accurate all-plastic transmissions. The results are being used by Hewlett Packard (Vancouver) in the development of drive systems for desktop printers (Michael Rode, Hardware Engineer; michael.rode@hp.com).
