Numerical analysis of the radial force produced by the Medtronic-CoreValve and Edwards-SAPIEN after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)
This study, performed in collaboration with the Structural Heart Disease Intervention team at UCLH, identifies and indicates possible solutions to the cases of migration and atrio-ventricular block observed after transcatheter aortic valve implantation. This was done by analysing numerically the mechanisms responsible for the radial force. The outcomes suggest the adoption of a more cautious selection of the recommended implantation sizes, which could improve the safety and efficacy of the treatment. Both reviewers have acknowledged that the study ‘addresses an important clinical problem (Rev.1)’ and ‘contributes importantly to the literature (Rev.1)’, with ‘definitely some clinical usefulness in these findings (Rev.2)’.
