Monitoring the response to neoadjuvant hormone therapy for locally advanced breast cancer using three-dimensional time-resolved optical mammography.
We imaged women with breast cancer using diffuse optics during hormone therapy prior to surgery and showed that we could identify those women who were responding to their treatment. Other imaging methods are not suitable for repeated studies, so this provides a unique opportunity to adapt treatment to each individual woman on a personalised basis. This work will facilitate both the development of new techniques for drug development and the identification of women who are not responding to their hormone therapy treatment so they can be offered a more appropriate treatment.
