Additional information

<20> Users show a strong preference for drawing Euler and Venn diagrams with circles. However, before this work, automated layout methods had not been able to draw diagrams with circles beyond trivial cases. This paper defines a large class of diagrams that can be drawn with circles. We prove that if the abstract data has certain properties, then a diagram can be drawn with circles. A software implementation draws these circle diagrams. This work is part of the “Visualization with Euler Diagrams” EPSRC project (EP/E010393/1). This output builds on a long Diagrams’10 paper which outlined a simpler circle drawing method.
