Additional information

<20> Visualization consultancy always begins by reading the client’s data but this apparently simple step can be fraught with difficulty, with binary data in an unknown or undisclosed format often proving completely intractable. Accordingly, the highly respected numerical software company Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) Ltd co-funded an EPSRC CASE studentship on data input. The result is the only fundamentally different approach to this problem to emerge since visualization was first recognised as a distinct discipline in the 1990s. Co-author and industrial supervisor Dr Jeremy Walton was senior visualization consultant at NAG Ltd until 2012.
