Additional information

This study was the first demonstrating the feasibility of non-invasive and radiation-free visualization of coronary vein anatomy using magnetic resonance. Accurate pre-operative information allows optimal positioning of the pacing leads and improved outcome in cardiac resynchronization therapy, which is a mainstay therapy in heart failure. Previously, the coronary venous system was visualized by cardiac catheterization or CT. The main advantage of CMR is the possibility to register and compare venous anatomy with patterns and distribution of myocardial scar. Our methods are recommended in clinical practice (ESC Textbook of Cardiovascular Imaging 2009) and International guidelines (European Heart Rhythm Association 2012).
