Additional information

Researchers from Norway, Italy and Germany worked on this paper. The impact of the research findings is substancial because one phenomenon e.g. air current segregation in silos was investigated at different scales. Industrial partners were very interested in these findings because it helped them understand their processes better and consequently save financial resources. I improved the design of silo filling point for one of their silos. The contributions of this paper were regognised by the research community and won the price “Bulk materials handling award for innovation 2009” awarded by the IMechE Process Industries Division.
