Additional information

This work is one of the first to use CFD to reproduce a full-scale post-crash cabin fire test including flame spread over complex cabin materials, correctly predicting flashover. It also validates the SMARTFIRE software for aircraft fire applications. Most importantly, the flame spread modelling approach developed by the authors is applied to complex aircraft materials. The flame spread model is being further developed as part of the EU FP7 project AIRCRAFTFIRE (265612), in which SMARTFIRE is the fire simulation tool being used in the project to investigate fire spread in aircraft constructed from composite materials (contact Graham.greene@caa.co.uk at UK CAA).
