Additional information

This paper argues for a most radical reshaping of social theory , exploring the consilience between sociology, socio-biology, evolutionary psychology, the philosophy of biology and ecology and their links with pragmatic philosophy. Without this, sociology practises a methodical isolationism, not enriched by contemporary sciences, nor even evolutionary paradigms. It draws on material from a number of sciences, including thermodynamics, complexity theory, cognitive biology, theory of the emotions and in particular, relationships between the social and the biosphere. Since social theory is a key disciplines for education studies, this has impact on all its aspects, from learning process to behavioural repertoires.
