A random phased array device for delivery of high intensity focused ultrasound
This development of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound permits electronic steering of ultrasound therapy that is not possible with existing mechanical implementations using single concave elements. The work was one of the Journal’s 2009 Highlights “selected for their presentation of outstanding new research, receipt of the highest praise from international referees and the highest number of downloads.” The work has led to the formation of Acublate Ltd funded by the technology transfer arm of Cancer Research UK (Press release 26 Jan 2012; http://www.cancerresearchuk.org) to take the device into clinical trials for solid tumour ablation.
