Additional information

This paper presents a new analytical model for crack initiation/propagation in reinforced concrete. The research in this paper formed the basis for a successful EPSRC grant application (EP/I032150/1, with Atkins UK, British Precast Concrete Federation Ltd, CIRIA, Costain, SEEDA, Southern Water, W R C Plc, Yorkshire Water Services Ltd), which Yang co-authored, though as a post-doc was not allowed to be an investigator. During that grant the model in this paper was further developed by Yang (as a post-doc) to assess the state of sewer systems and predict their remaining safe life.
