This is the first part of the young adult science fiction Peace Child trilogy. The whole trilogy attempts to meet a definition of the young adult novel established not just by my scrutiny of those produced in the English-speaking world but of those produced in several languages and on several continents. It also includes another characteristic of the global young adult novel: the exploration of our own society by objectification through a science fiction setting. This particular volume explores the problems of cultural isolation and of the outsider within society.
