Additional information

GCH and MBG conceived the study; SLH, MBG and GCH led the data analyses and interpretation with contributions from all authors. SLH and GCH wrote the paper with contributions from all authors. This paper reveals a dramatic shift from dinoflagellates to diatoms in the North Atlantic region driven by the additive impact of warming and increasingly windy conditions. This importance of changing wind patterns was previously largely ignored. Recommended by Faculty of 1000 (F1000).
