Additional information

<26>After three decades of research, four outstanding problems in implicit modeling remained. These were explicitly defined in this paper for the first time. We also proposed initial but limited solutions. The importance of this paper is that it has helped focus attention on this field. This work has served as a foundation for much further work by the authors and their collaborators, on (e.g) bounding volumes, feature based volumes, and modeling of blood vessels, and influenced our breakthrough work on gradient-based implicit blending (ACM TOG 32(2)). This paper has helped develop ongoing research collaborations with Toulouse and Grenoble.
