Gathering Time is the outcome of a 7-year research project joint-funded by AHRC and English Heritage and led by Whittle. The project evaluated over 2000 radiocarbon dates, c.450 of which were obtained for the project. Results were put in the context of the early Neolithic in Britain and the adjacent continent. This is the largest modelling exercise of its kind and involved exploration of new narratives for this kind of prehistory. The monograph is 992 pages long and Whittle is a named author on all 15 chapters, and lead author on several, including the wider final discussion chapter.
