New inorganic (an)ion exchangers based on Mg–Al hydrous oxides: (alkoxide-free) sol–gel synthesis and characterisation
The article describes the novel, yet cost effective, environmentally friendly and easy to upscale synthesis method (EU patent pending) for production of the advanced class materials, Mg-Al Layered Double Hydroxides (Mg-Al LDH). It evidences that the developed synthesis method tailors Mg-Al LDH with an exceptionally higher surface reactivity what results in the unique adsorptive removal properties towards the list of toxic anions which are target ions for water industries (primarily, arsenic). In contrast to the known materials, which usually remove one-little anionic species, this novel adsorbent showed the best or competitive removal capacity towards variety of toxic substances.
