Additional information

This paper describes a Scottish Government funded project (£30K) investigating the feasibility of a particular pathway towards landfill diversion of municipal waste. This work was unique in that it investigated a reversal of the conventional sequence of waste treatment in order to align with water industry processes. It supported the emerging policy of source segregation of waste to reduce landfill dependency, which is now best practice. This work was part of a larger suite of Scottish Government funded projects (>£1M). Close collaboration with Scottish Water and Scottish Government was characteristic of this project.
