Additional information
This article introduces the use of information theory and decoding algorithms –and proposes how to combine these approaches– for the analysis of neural populations in neuroscience. The article was featured in the cover of the journal and was also discussed by the editors. It was the end result of a 1-year EPSRC feasibility grant. The original ideas proposed in this paper led to a 1-year project funded by the Science Without Borders programme from Brazil. They were also the starting point of a book edited by the authors, “Principles of Neural Coding”, published in 2013 by Taylor and Francis.
