This paper is an invited contribution to a special issue of JVLC containing substantially extended papers accepted for the 3rd International Workshop on Euler Diagrams 2012, which ran at Diagrams 2012; only the best three papers were invited to submit to the special issue. The original paper was entitled ‘Introducing 3D Venn and Euler Diagrams’. These two papers are pioneering in that they are the first to introduce 3D Euler diagrams. The JVLC paper is also the first to identify necessary and sufficient conditions for well-formed drawability in 3D. JVLC is A rated in the Australian ERA/CORE list.
