Percutaneous Intraductal Radiofrequency Ablation is a Safe Treatment for Malignant Biliary Obstruction: Feasibility and Early Results
I developed a bipolar radiofrequency catheter that is capable of ablating malignant tissue surrounding hepatic and biliary ducts. This report demonstrates its first-in-man percutaneous use in patients with malignant biliary obstruction. The report showed that treatment is safe, helping the commercialization of the device by Emcision Ltd (http://emcision.com/products/habib-endohpb1/), an Imperial spin-out company; initial sales are being made. The technique has been adopted by other groups who are repeating the Phase 1 clinical trials (Figueroa-Barojas et.al. J Oncol. 2013;2013:910897).
