Individually addressable microelectrode array for monitoring oxygen and nitric oxide release
We describe versatile technology which for the first time enables long-term electrochemical measurements of living mammalian cells in culture medium. Reliable quantitative protocols were established for rapidly assessing biocompatibility, since adopted by others (Ewing, Gothenberg; Sungkyunkwan/Ewha/Chungbuk, Korea; Unwin/Macpherson, Warwick). Led to our 4 further publications (Biochem, BBA, Chem Comm and Biosensors Bioelectronics, all 2012), invited keynote lectures in Korea (Bio Korea 2009), Sweden and Germany, a studentship (NTU, Singapore) and partnership in the Global Research Laboratory Program of the National Research Foundation of Korea (K20904000004-11A0500-00410). A collaboration based on this has begun with DSTL to study B. anthracis.
