Mathematical classification of regulatory logics for compound environmental changes.
This paper proposes a new notion of control logics in biological signalling systems and mathematically shows that biological control mechanisms can be understood by combinations of only four different logics. This novel idea concerning biological control systems from a control engineering viewpoint was recognized by the General Chair’s Recognition Award to the extended version of this paper presented at the 2009 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (one of the largest conferences in the Control community). This work resulted in me obtaining an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship (EP/L001551/1, £612k, 2009-2014) to reveal common control mechanisms in biological systems.
