Synthetic gene circuits for metabolic control: design trade-offs and constraints
This paper establishes a new broad family of models for the analysis and design of coupled genetic-metabolic networks. The results formed the basis for (a) grants targeting the use of rigorous systems and control engineering methods for analysis and robust control of synthetic biology systems (EPSRC EP/K020617/1, EP/J021849/1 and EP/J014214/1, total: £0.9M), (b) the organisation as key contributor of a special session on “Control Theory in Synthetic Biology” at the primary international conference in Control (IEEE CDC, Dec 2012, http://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=top_venues&hl=en&vq=eng_automationcontroltheory), and (c) invited plenary talks e.g. at École Normale Supérieure, Paris, 2012, and Cambridge Computational Biology Institute Annual Symposium, 2011.
