Additional information

Unusual in its range of disciplines, combining experts from internationally leading groups in the field of microbiology and surface engineering and tribology, this work aims to address the significant problem of clinical infection resulting from external bone fixation (up to 30% infection rates). It combines bactericidal and tribological properties known to affect microbial retention in a single composite coating, and investigated the mechanisms by which silver nanoparticles counteract different organisms.
