Additional information

This paper describes for the first time detailed statistical investigations into the effectiveness of three widely-adopted optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OOFDM) adaptive loading algorithms, including power-loading (PL), bit-loading, and bit-and-power loading (BPL). Numerical results indicate that, for multi-mode-fibre links of less than 300m, the simplest PL algorithm is best but, for relatively long multi-mode-fibre links (9800m), the BPL algorithm has to be adopted. These results could bring significant cost-effective benefits to OOFDM transceiver architecture design. This work has been cited in 13 subsequent journal articles.
