Additional information

This paper focuses onto the area of biocidal coatings but (in contrast to the "active" paper) uses a “passive” approach coating (i.e. one that does not need UV activation). The whole coating is deposited in one stage with a layer which defines durability, bio-activity and also longevity of the activity via diffusion control of a biocidally active component to the surface. This process has been progressed (by Industrial collaborators) to the stage of testing in hospital environments and is now being assessed for scale up. Two independent patents have been filed with collaborators PCT EP/2011/061551 and GB 0900206.4
