Additional information

This paper studied a novel photovoltaic /loop-heat-pipe (PV/LHP) heat pump system for use in water heating and power generation. The performance of the system was characterised using a new numerical model validated by laboratory experiments. The PV/LHP module and system was able to achieve higher electrical, thermal and overall efficiencies and coefficient of performance than the conventional parallels. The research results will greatly assist in the development of high efficiency solar heating systems. This work led to the award of an EU grant (PIIF-GA-2011-298093) and the development of a commercially viable prototype in Shanghai Pacific Energy Centre.
