Additional information

Despite ubiquity of digital information systems in engineering there is little data on their use in, and impact on, engineering practice; this is important issue for design of information systems. Paper makes systematic study of information use by engineers in various organisations and also makes important contributions to understanding of methodological approaches that can be used for such challenging studies. Work had impact on keynotes given by McMahon at leading conferences: 2011 ICED in Copenhagen (Denmark) [tinyurl.com/gen-eng-111] and 2013 ICoRD in Chennai (India) [tinyurl.com/gen-eng-145], and on major programme of work with GE Power Conversion [Contact: PLM Program Business Manager].
