Additional information

In this paper we report on novel strategy to magnetize living cells via intracellular anchoring with polymeric microcapsules modified with magnetic nanoparticles. While toxicity studies, performed on both primary cells and an in vitro cultured cell line, showed a minor influence on cell viability, we demonstrated that cells were rendered susceptible to magnetic navigation upon uptake of magnetic microcapsules. Potential use of the magnetic cell delivery effect is beneficial for cell therapy and biomaterials related to cell transporting and monitoring of cell trafficking. The reported results were used as preliminary data to secure further BBSRC grant funding (BB/J001473/1).
