The structural design algorithm described in this paper has been implemented commercially by Capital Steel Buildings Ltd and is used to design approximately 50 portal frames each week in the UK, Spain and Australia. Capital Steel Buildings Ltd has subsequently supported a KTP project, building on an EPSRC CASE award previously awarded to Dr Lim.
