Social Landlord and Tenant Law in England and Wales / Soziales Mietrecht in England und Wales
The article formed part of a Europe-wide project to document landlord and tenant legislation in different European jurisdictions tracing the policy behind the current law and highlighting controversial or problematic aspects of it. It covers all sectors of the rented property market. It outlines the historical policy reasons for statutory intervention in the landlord-tenant bargain across all sectors, before summarising the present legislation – including the scope of statutory protection; statutory succession; rent regulation; and security of tenure and the termination of tenancies – in each case focusing on elements of difficulty or controversy and including discussion of proposals for reform.
