This article is part of a special journal issue on questions of and relations between the national/transnational for contemporary Latin American cinemas, with a section devoted to Film Festivals based in that region. The project arose from a colloquium I co-ordinated at University of Lincoln (Feb 2012) funded by JISLAC/BA and SLAS, attended by speakers from the US, UK and Latin America, part of a series of events that have brought scholars together to explore this theme. In addition to the article, I co-edited the edition and co-authored the introduction: ‘Latin American cinemas today: Reframing the national’, pp. 143-5.
