Computation of the effects of removing flash (excessive materials) from forged aeroengine components presents a major computation challenge requiring normally “7 days of running on a high spec desktop PC” (paul.brown@rolls-royce.com). This paper reports and validates a new and generic approach to effectively and accurately quantify the trimming operation of 3D components.
