Double-weighted statement

Double weighting is based on the originality and complexity of the topic, and the range of discourses and expertise upon which it draws. Pattison had to explore a wide variety of disciplinary literatures ranging from sociology and psychology to art history and theology, and undertook extensive consultation with scholars and practitioners from a variety of disciplines (medicine, art history, psychology, biblical studies etc), involving visits and discussions in several centres. An original conception of face and the face behind face in religion and everyday life has emerged, but this has taken a considerable amount of interdisciplinary enquiry and gestation.
