This paper results from the on-going EC funded project WIDTH (2011-2014, http://www.mitime.org/width) and aims at separating respiration movement from cardiac motion in order to obtain an accurate measurement of the heart. Although an age-old topic, it remains challenging and unsolved. By collaboration with the Barts and London Medical School at Queen Mary and WIDTH Chinese partners, a simulation software system has been developed, making a significant stepping stone towards the aim, which also forms the first half of a PhD student project.
