Additional information

This paper presented the first use in Structural Health Monitoring of the Dempster-Shafer network, an alternative to the probabilstic approach allowing for the expression of ignorance, thereby allowing greater confidence in damage identification predictions. The paper fused the evidence-based and probabilistic approaches and was conducted in collaboration with an international expert on Dempster-Shafer theory. The experimental work was funded by QinetiQ (contact details available) and conducted at their facilities in Farnborough. This is one of the few Structural Health Monitoring studies considering data from a real structure.
