A cost-effective direct magnitude measurement methodology for smart antennas
Measurement of a smart antenna is complicated and costly. A novel cost-effective methodology is proposed for characterizing smart antennas prior to incorporation into transceivers. Using this method, signal-to-interference ratio is plotted as a function of separation angle between desired signals and interferences according to different link margins. The method is validated by practical measurements. Compared to traditional methods, it is simpler and can improve the measurement repeatability and reduce measurement time and cost significantly. The work involves collaboration with industry (NPL) and led to invited talks (Gao, Xidian University, China, April 2013, xsren@mail.xidian.edu.cn; 2013 Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference, UK).
